Industrial Models

Scale models of the equipment you make and sell, built to explain it on a crowded show floor.

Industrial model makers for 60+ years

KiwiMill builds industrial models of the equipment our clients make and sell: chillers, cooling towers, heat pumps, rooftop HVAC units, process skids, pumps and valves, pressure exchangers, and robots. We build them from 3D printed plastic and sheet metal, with metal wherever the model takes stress, so these industrial scale models hold up to years of freight and booth handling.

Where the real machine hides what matters, we open it up: a cutaway that shows the full equipment lineup inside a sealed power container, synchronized lighting and motion that walk a viewer through an energy-recovery cycle, or a working dam model that runs real water through its spillway and generator. We've been industrial model makers for more than 60 years, and we have never missed a client's show date.

Industrial equipment models we build

  • Process skids, pumps, and valves: skid-mounted systems with the piping, valving, and panel detail your buyers look for.
  • Cutaway models: gate valve and ball valve cutaways that work like the real thing, for the booth or the training room.
  • HVAC and cooling equipment: chillers, cooling towers, adiabatic coolers, and heat pumps, some in heavy-gauge sheet metal like the real unit.
  • Energy and mining equipment: sand transloaders, pressure exchangers, and site models with terrain and material flow.
  • Working and animated models: motion, lighting, and moving parts that show how the equipment runs, not just what it looks like.

Everything happens in our own shop: engineers work from your CAD, drawings, or photos, model makers build and finish the model, and every model ships in a Pelican or custom-built case.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an industrial model cost?

Models typically start around $6,000. Multi-model projects often run $10,000 and up. For industrial equipment, the price comes down to size, how much of the piping, valving, and panel detail you want shown, and whether the model needs cutaways, lighting, or moving parts. A quote is free. Send CAD or photos and we'll come back with a real number.

Should the model show every pipe and valve, or a simplified version?

It depends on who's looking. If your audience already knows the equipment, a simplified model often reads better. We've built chillers stripped down to their basic form, and facility models where the customer's piping is the only thing in color and everything else is painted gray so the eye goes straight to the product. If the detail is the selling point, we model it: individual cabinets, panel faces, vents, and pipe runs.

Can you build it in sheet metal like the real unit?

Yes, when it serves the model. Our sheet-metal shop builds frames, skids, and cabinets in steel and aluminum, and some industrial models are metal throughout. Most combine metal where the model takes stress with 3D printed parts for shape and detail. Either way, it's built to survive freight, repeated setups, and visitors leaning on it.

Can the model show how our equipment works, not just what it looks like?

That's often the reason to build one. We've built models with synchronized motion and color-coded lighting that show fluid moving through an energy-recovery device, articulating robots, a motorized air separator, and a working hydroelectric dam with real water. If the process is invisible on the real machine, a model can make it visible.

Our product is small. Can you build it larger than life?

Yes, scale works in both directions. We've built a trade show replica of a capacitor that is an inch and a half long in real life, and cutaways that enlarge one section of a skid so the key parts can be seen from across the aisle.
