Protozoa Models
These two protozoa models of a Rotifier and a Water Bear were built for a water treatment client. These 36” long models depict the microscopic bugs used to digest sewage.
The Water Bear was sculpted from low density urethane foam, showing all the carapace seams and other body details including the curved sharp claws, made from ABS. The entire model was coated with a hard shell urethane surface and painted.
The Rotifier was made from laid up fiberglass and epoxy formed over a mold. The center was hollow, translucent showing vague indications of internal structures, slightly tinted. Some carapace steps were added. A final coat of pearlescent clear coat was added to finish it. The cilia structures were sharp and pointed and created from ABS.
These protozoa models hang from the ceiling in a visitor center as decorations.
