Flight of Five Canal Model

This canal model was built for a museum display. The site model depicts a set of working locks. A lock is a device used for raising and lowering boats, ships and other watercraft between stretches of water of different levels on river or canal waterways. This lock system was called the Flight of Five, and existed in the 1830’s in Lockport, New York. They were part of the Erie Canal that runs through NYS.

The canal model was created from medium density foam, laser cut plastic, etched metal and 3D printed material. The entire model was created from one sketch from the 1840’s drawn before it was dismantled.

You can visit the model today at the Flight of Five Lock Museum in New York State.
